Grade three
The third grade is still working on the fraction unit. Even though it takes some time to master, it’s something worth learning. Mrs. Gaudet, the substitute for Mr. Cogan, even made the kids power point programs to help them with this topic.
On Friday, May 16th, they with be taking their Math MCAS test. Good luck to the third grade!

In reading, third grade is reading, Coco Ice. With this the kids have also created and designed their own candy bar. They even gave a price for them. In a while they will be done with the story and get a piece of chocolate.
In math, the kids are working mainly on fractions to prepare for the up-coming MCAS test. They are working vary hard at it. They also use fake pizza fractions to help them. Yum! Every morning they pair into two groups, the red team and the green team. Then they are given a math paper with several problems on it. They have five minutes to complete the task. The team that gets the most answers correct wins!

Now, in Mr. Cogan’s class, the kids are learning about measurements. They are working with liquid and capacity. Also, they have been working on measuring everything in their classroom like, their desks, pencils, and chalk and white boards.
The third grade class is also planning to take a field trip to the North Shore Music Theater in the first week of April. The performance that they will see is Frog and Toad and we know they are strongly looking forward to it.
Mr. Cogan will be out for all next week and Mrs. Cox will be in for the week.

The third grade field trip to the J.F.K Museum was a hit with them. They all enjoyed the historical artifacts of the museum. Now the children know all about a past president, John F. Kennedy.
On the 100th day of school, the students wore “I’m 100 Days Smarter” t-shirts. They can be seen here with the students of grades K, 1, and 2 who also wore the shirts for the day.
Also during the 100th day, the third graders had another visit from the fire fighters who are teaching them about fire safety. They can be seen here with Fire Fighter Turner. Even a few of the students tried on the heavy gear.
Also, they had a blast at their Valentines Day party. They shared
Valentines and ate some sweet treats.
They have been enjoying collecting box tops. Each 100 they get
is another TOUCHDOWN!!!!
As you can see, the third graders are having a pretty good year.
